Last night, I was asleep when Salsa started barking uproariously. I stumbled out of bed to see what was going on and found Greg on the front porch, reading. I asked him why the dog was having a fit. He told me that a man had just came up to the porch, pulled one steak (still wrapped) from his front pocket, and asked him if he wanted to buy it.

“No man, I’m good,” is what Greg said.

The man left.

I remembered this incident in the morning, and had difficulty distinguishing it from some sort of weird dream. Later on, I asked Greg, “Who the hell buys stolen meat from people in the middle of the night? I mean, is there actually a market for this stuff or what?”

Sky spoke up and let us know that his roommate Zack had scored the household 20 steaks (for a dollar each) from just such an exchange.

This is such a weird place sometimes.

Hmm. That *is* weird. That’s even stranger than the people who come around my neighborhood in what looks like a ratty ice cream truck, selling meat out of the back of it.

I’ve never heard of that in my life. I would never buy it, just because of possible lack of refrigeration. (plus I’m not a huge fan of red meat) If it had been a huge chocolate bar…

Hm, didn’t know that’s something that you can sell door-to-door…

This is weird, but what has MY panties in a wad is your picture of the sirloin steak showing the price of $25.23 (without the card). WTF? Give me a break — and then you SAVE $18.05 when you use your card? Right. For a sirloin steak! (Don’t get me started…)

Meat, huh? We have a guy in the neighborhood who occasionally comes around in what I call the meat truck who tries to sell us meat from the back of his truck. We are apparently a popular stop but since we are vegetarians I’m afraid he’s not going to get our business. I guess he keeps forgetting we are vegetarians and just keeps coming back. I don’t think his meat is stolen but it is always a possibility. In your instance the steak probably was. That is just strange.
