Visions

So far, they’ve never been premonitions. And when you’re driving down the road and in your mind’s eye you see the motorcycle in front of you skid, tumble, its driver sliding beneath the wheels of an oncoming car–you are thankful for that.

It’s difficult to know what to make of it all sometimes. You read articles about people who felt a sudden foreboding about getting on a particular flight, and who subsequently saved themselves from a fiery death amid twisted metal falling from the sky. You imagine what would happen if you acted on all of your feelings of foreboding. Chances are, you’d never leave the house again.

You wonder what would happen if for once, you actually did have a premonition of a disaster of some sort. Would you recognize it? Or would you write it off as being just another one of your catastrophic visions?

You wish the visions in your head were good ones. Perhaps someday, in the subreality your mind drifts to, you will see the perfection of the incomprehensible order of life. The good things. The ones we take for granted.

I always kind of wished I had visions of stuff happening, but my mind just doesn’t work that way, I’m really not very visual at all. But I guess you don’t get to choose whether the things you see in your minds eye are good or bad.

I think sometimes such visions are triggered by subliminal clues. Once or twice I have predicted earthquakes (aloud, so I have confirmation of this), but I am probably am responding to the same clues, unknown to my conscious mind, that make animals agitated before an earthquake.

    Good, thoughtful post!

The things is, nobody’s interested in writing articles about the people who chicken out of flying because of a bad feeling, and the plane flies off safely without them.

the brain is certainly a self-contained universe with a million mysteries all of its own, isn’t it??? — how talented we would be if we could figure it ALL out - and how bored! — interesting post for sure!!!

I think the key (if there is one) is to know the difference between the run-of-the-mill fantasy/daydream/wandering mind and an actual “premonition” sort of vision. Although, I must say, I don’t have visions of motorcycles crashing and their riders being run over….you are one twisted mind :P

I am a worrywart, so I never would believe any premonitions I would have. Sage sounds a lot like Ashley who has turned into an activist and a vegan. I’ve backed away from politics too because I don’t see much changing or lots of viable solutions offered. Depressing.
