Bullying

Man, I am going crazy! Just when I think I’ve decided on a course of action, a situation comes up. Sage told me about a whole bunch of bullying behaviors that he is experiencing today. Of course I immediately emailed his teachers, but I just really hate to hear it. I know that bullying is really hard to stop, and that teachers can’t catch everything. Sage really doesn’t understand why kids mess with him and has no idea how to respond. I catch myself wondering if I should teach him ways to mess with kids back, and then think how ridiculous that is–to teach a kid that so they can get by in public school. I guess public school has always been this way, and probably is everywhere. Other kids don’t seem to know how to cope with kids who are a bit different, and the mean ones really show their stripes.

It really sucks. I don’t know what to do, ultimately. You know I’m thinking, “homeschool”….but HOW???

One Response to “Bullying”

Bullying is scary stuff too–both from the perpetrator’s end and the victim’s perspective. You don’t want it to start to shape Sage’s life or how he perceives himself. How can he take control of the situation, if possible? How can he advocate for himself and his rights? Who can he go to report this because many(most?) schools have zero tolerance these days for bullying or harrassment? These are the lessons we need to somehow teach kids–a plan of action when these behaviors occur.
